Treadmill Roller Shaft Damage – Bent Shafts and Bearing Seat Wear
Severe vibration or noise can be caused by a bent treadmill roller shaft or worn bearing seats. Learn to diagnose this advanced mechanical problem.
Understanding Roller Shafts and Bearing Seats
The shaft is the metal rod that goes through the center of the roller and on which the bearings sit. The bearing seat is the machined surface where the bearing makes contact.
Causes of Shaft and Seat Damage
This type of damage is caused by extreme stress, such as from a massively overtightened belt, a sudden impact, or a completely seized bearing that spins on the shaft, grinding it down.
Symptoms of Severe Roller Damage
Symptoms include extreme, violent vibration and a very loud, irregular noise. The roller may visibly wobble as it turns. The belt will be impossible to keep centered.
Why This Requires Roller Replacement
A bent shaft or damaged bearing seat cannot be repaired. The only solution is to replace the entire roller assembly. Attempting to use the machine in this state is dangerous and will cause further damage.
