Treadmill Motor Error Code – Electrical and Mechanical Faults Explained

A motor error code on your treadmill can mean an overloaded motor, worn brushes, or a controller failure. Learn how to diagnose the source of the motor fault.

What a "Motor Error" Means

This code indicates a problem directly related to the drive motor's performance. The controller has detected that the motor is drawing too much current (overload), not running when commanded, or has an internal short.

Check for Mechanical Overload First

Before blaming the motor, ensure it isn't being forced to work too hard. A dry, unlubricated belt is the #1 cause of motor overload. Worn roller bearings can also cause excessive drag.

Inspecting the Drive Motor

Look for a burning smell, excessive heat, or black dust around the motor (a sign of worn carbon brushes). A technician can perform tests to check for electrical faults within the motor itself.

Is it the Motor or the Controller?

A motor error can be caused by a faulty motor OR a faulty Motor Control Board (MCB) that is not supplying power correctly. Differentiating between the two often requires specialized diagnostic equipment.
