Treadmill Error E6 – Motor Drive and Electrical Protection Errors

A treadmill E6 error indicates a problem with the motor drive system or an electrical protection circuit. Our guide explains how to troubleshoot these complex issues.

Understanding E6 Motor Drive Errors

The E6 error code typically points to a fault in the power delivery system to the drive motor. This could be an issue with the motor itself, the control board, or the power transistors that regulate motor voltage.

Can High Friction Cause an E6 Error?

Yes. Similar to an E3 (overload) error, severe friction from a dry belt can put immense strain on the drive system, potentially triggering an E6 protection code on some models.

Inspecting the Drive Motor

Check the drive motor for signs of overheating (discoloration, smell), and listen for grinding noises that could indicate bearing failure. A technician can perform a test to check for shorts in the motor windings.

Diagnosing the Motor Control Board (MCB)

The E6 error is very frequently caused by a failed component on the MCB, such as the power FETs or the motor driver IC. This is a clear sign that the control board needs to be repaired or replaced by a professional.
