Treadmill Communication Error – Console and Control Board Problems

A communication error (like E1) on your treadmill means the console and motor controller aren't talking. Learn how to check the data cable and connections.

The Console-to-Controller Link

The upper console and lower Motor Control Board (MCB) are connected by a single data cable. If this link is broken, the treadmill will not operate and will display a communication error.

Inspecting the Data Cable

This is the first and most important step. Unplug the machine and carefully check the data cable connections at the back of the console and on the MCB. Reseat the connectors firmly. Check the cable for any signs of pinching or damage.

Power to the MCB

If the MCB itself is not receiving power, it cannot communicate with the console. Check for status LEDs on the MCB. If there are no lights, the board itself might be dead.

Failed Console or MCB Electronics

If the cable is good and the MCB has power, then the fault lies in the electronics of either the console or the MCB. A technician is needed to determine which board has failed.
